Stark Ensemble is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2009 by a group of talented musicians who shared a passion for chamber music. The ensemble is based in New York City and has gained a reputation for its innovative programming and exceptional performances. The founding members of Stark Ensemble were violinist Mark Peskanov, cellist Edward Arron, and pianist Jeewon Park. All three musicians had established successful careers as soloists and chamber musicians before coming together to form the ensemble. They were joined by violist Maurycy Banaszek and clarinetist Romie de Guise-Langlois, both of whom were also accomplished musicians with extensive experience in chamber music. From the beginning, Stark Ensemble set out to explore the rich and diverse repertoire of chamber music, from the classics of the 18th and 19th centuries to contemporary works by living composers. The ensemble's programming has always been characterized by a commitment to excellence and a willingness to take risks, with a particular emphasis on showcasing lesser-known works and composers. Over the years, Stark Ensemble has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the United States and abroad, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. The ensemble has also collaborated with a wide range of artists, including the Emerson String Quartet, pianist Jeremy Denk, and soprano Dawn Upshaw. One of the highlights of Stark Ensemble's career was its performance of the complete Beethoven piano trios at the 92nd Street Y in New York City in 2013. The ensemble's interpretation of these iconic works was praised for its depth, sensitivity, and technical virtuosity. The performance was also notable for its innovative staging, which incorporated projections and lighting effects to create a dynamic and immersive experience for the audience. Stark Ensemble has also been recognized for its recordings, which have received critical acclaim and numerous awards. In 2015, the ensemble released an album of works by the American composer Paul Schoenfield, which was named one of the best classical recordings of the year by The New York Times. The ensemble's recording of the complete Beethoven piano trios was also highly praised, with Gramophone magazine calling it "a benchmark recording that will stand the test of time." In addition to its performances and recordings, Stark Ensemble is committed to education and outreach. The ensemble has worked with young musicians through masterclasses and workshops, and has also performed in schools and community centers to bring classical music to a wider audience. Today, Stark Ensemble continues to be one of the most respected and innovative chamber music ensembles in the world. The ensemble's current members include violinist Mark Peskanov, cellist Edward Arron, pianist Ran Dank, violist Maurycy Banaszek, and clarinetist Romie de Guise-Langlois. With their passion for excellence and their commitment to exploring the full range of chamber music repertoire, Stark Ensemble is sure to continue making a significant contribution to the world of classical music for many years to come.More....
