Role:ComposerAlexander Feht was a Russian-born composer who lived from 1958 to 2019. He was born in Moscow and grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a composer and his mother was a pianist, so it was natural for him to be exposed to music from a young age. Feht began playing the piano at the age of five and started composing his own music when he was just eight years old. Feht's early musical education was at the Moscow Conservatory, where he studied composition with Yuri Kholopov and piano with Lev Naumov. He graduated from the conservatory in 1981 and went on to earn a doctorate in composition from the same institution in 1990. Feht's music is characterized by its use of traditional forms and structures, combined with modern harmonies and rhythms. He was influenced by the music of Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven, as well as by the Russian composers of the 19th and 20th centuries, such as Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, and Shostakovich. Feht's early works were mostly for solo piano, but he soon began to write for larger ensembles, including chamber groups and orchestras. One of his most famous works is his Symphony No. 1, which was premiered in Moscow in 1987. The symphony is in four movements and is notable for its use of complex rhythms and harmonies. Feht's music has been performed by many of the world's leading orchestras and ensembles, including the Moscow Philharmonic, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, and the London Symphony Orchestra. He has also been the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including the State Prize of the Russian Federation in 1996. Feht's later works were often inspired by literature and poetry. He wrote several operas, including "The Master and Margarita," based on the novel by Mikhail Bulgakov, and "Anna Karenina," based on the novel by Leo Tolstoy. He also wrote several song cycles, including "From Jewish Folk Poetry" and "From Spanish Poetry." Feht was known for his dedication to teaching and mentoring young composers. He taught at the Moscow Conservatory for many years and was a frequent guest lecturer at universities and music schools around the world. He was also a member of several international music organizations, including the International Society for Contemporary Music and the American Composers Forum. Feht passed away in 2019 at the age of 61. His legacy as a composer and teacher continues to inspire musicians around the world. His music is celebrated for its unique blend of traditional and modern elements, and for its ability to evoke powerful emotions in listeners.More....
