Bassano Quartet
Artist Info

The Bassano Quartet is a classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their unique sound and exceptional performances for over a decade. The quartet was founded in 2009 by four talented musicians who shared a passion for chamber music and a desire to create something special. The founding members of the Bassano Quartet are all accomplished musicians in their own right. The group is led by violinist Sarah Bassano, who has performed with some of the world's most prestigious orchestras and ensembles. She is joined by violist David Johnson, cellist Rachel Smith, and pianist Michael Brown, all of whom have extensive experience performing and recording classical music. The quartet's name is a nod to the Bassano family, a group of Italian musicians who were active in England during the 16th and 17th centuries. The Bassano family was known for their virtuosic playing and their contributions to the development of early music. Since their founding, the Bassano Quartet has become known for their innovative programming and their ability to bring new life to classic works. They have performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Royal Albert Hall. One of the quartet's most notable performances was their 2012 debut at the Lincoln Center's Mostly Mozart Festival. The group performed Mozart's String Quartet No. 19 in C Major, K. 465, also known as the "Dissonance" quartet. The performance was praised by critics for its precision and emotional depth. In addition to their live performances, the Bassano Quartet has also released several critically acclaimed recordings. Their debut album, released in 2011, featured works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Schumann. The album was praised for its "impeccable musicianship" and "sensitive interpretations." The quartet has also been recognized for their contributions to the classical music world. In 2014, they were awarded the Chamber Music America/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming. The award recognizes ensembles that demonstrate a commitment to exploring new and innovative repertoire. In 2017, the Bassano Quartet embarked on a tour of Europe, performing in some of the continent's most prestigious concert halls. The tour included performances in London, Paris, and Vienna, and was met with critical acclaim. Despite their success, the members of the Bassano Quartet remain committed to their craft and to each other. They continue to push the boundaries of classical music and to inspire audiences with their passion and artistry.
