Throughout his teenage years, Richards continued to perform in public, both as a soloist and as a member of various chamber groups. He won numerous competitions and awards, including the prestigious Young Concert Artists International Auditions in 2003. After graduating from Juilliard, Richards went on to study at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. There, he continued to hone his skills and develop his unique style.
