From a young age, Joseph showed a natural talent for music, and he began playing the piano at the age of four. Joseph's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue music seriously. He began taking piano lessons with renowned pianist and teacher, Maria João Pires, at the age of six. Under her guidance, Joseph developed a deep understanding of classical music and honed his technical skills. As a teenager, Joseph began performing in local concerts and competitions. He quickly gained a reputation as a prodigious talent, and his performances were praised for their technical precision and emotional depth. In 2001, at the age of 16, Joseph won first prize in the prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, becoming the youngest winner in the competition's history.
