Born on May 22, 1975, in Oslo, Norway, Baugerød showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. He went on to study music at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo, where he received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in piano performance. Baugerød's talent as a pianist was evident from an early age, and he quickly gained recognition for his skill and musicality. He won several awards and competitions, including the Steinway Prize for Young Pianists and the Grieg Prize for Young Musicians. He also performed extensively as a soloist and chamber musician, both in Norway and abroad. In addition to his work as a pianist, Baugerød was also interested in conducting and composition. He studied conducting with Jorma Panula and composition with Olav Anton Thommessen, and went on to conduct several orchestras and ensembles, including the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra, and the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra. Baugerød's conducting career took off in the early 2000s, when he was appointed as the principal conductor of the Norwegian Radio Orchestra. He held this position from 2002 to 2006, and during his tenure, he led the orchestra in several critically acclaimed performances and recordings. He also conducted the orchestra on several international tours, including a tour of China in 2005. In 2006, Baugerød was appointed as the principal conductor of the Norwegian Wind Ensemble, a position he held until 2012. During his time with the ensemble, he led them in several innovative and exciting performances, including a collaboration with the Norwegian National Ballet and a performance of Steve Reich's "Music for 18 Musicians" at the Ultima Festival in Oslo. Baugerød's work as a composer has also been highly regarded. He has written several works for orchestra, chamber ensembles, and solo instruments, and his music has been performed by some of the world's leading musicians and ensembles. His compositions are known for their lyrical melodies, rich harmonies, and innovative use of form and structure. One of Baugerød's most notable compositions is his Piano Concerto, which he wrote in 2008. The concerto was premiered by Baugerød himself, with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra conducted by Miguel Harth-Bedoya. The piece was well-received by audiences and critics alike, and has since been performed by several other pianists and orchestras. Baugerød's career has been marked by several highlights and achievements. In addition to his awards and competition wins as a pianist, he has also received several awards and honors for his work as a conductor and composer. In 2005, he was awarded the prestigious Lindeman Prize for his contributions to Norwegian music, and in 2010, he was awarded the Norwegian Society of Composers' Prize for his Piano Concerto.
