SLIXS is a German a cappella ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their unique blend of classical music and pop since their founding in 1999. The group consists of six members, all of whom are highly trained vocalists with backgrounds in classical music. The founding members of SLIXS, Tobias Kiel, Florian Juncker, and Daniel Barke, met while studying at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Stuttgart. They were all members of the school's renowned jazz choir, and they quickly discovered a shared passion for a cappella music. They began performing together as a trio, and soon added three more members to create the six-person ensemble that is now known as SLIXS. The group's name is a play on the word "slices," which reflects their approach to music. They take a variety of musical genres and slice them together to create something entirely new and unexpected. Their repertoire includes everything from classical choral works to pop hits, and they are known for their intricate vocal arrangements and stunning harmonies. One of the highlights of SLIXS' career was their performance at the 2006 World Choir Games in Xiamen, China. They won the gold medal in the jazz category, and their performance was praised for its energy, creativity, and technical precision. This was a major milestone for the group, and it helped to establish them as one of the top a cappella ensembles in the world. SLIXS has also performed at a number of other prestigious events and venues, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Montreux Jazz Festival, and the International A Cappella Festival in Leipzig. They have collaborated with a variety of other artists, including jazz pianist Michael Wollny and the Berlin-based string quartet Salut Salon. In addition to their live performances, SLIXS has released several albums over the years. Their debut album, "Unpeeled," was released in 2004 and featured a mix of original compositions and covers of popular songs. They have since released several more albums, including "Night and Day" and "Energie," which showcase their unique blend of classical and pop music. SLIXS has received numerous awards and accolades over the years, including the German Music Prize and the Echo Klassik Award. They have also been featured in a number of television and radio programs, including the popular German talk show "Wetten, dass..?" Despite their success, SLIXS remains committed to pushing the boundaries of a cappella music and exploring new musical genres. They continue to tour and perform around the world, delighting audiences with their innovative and captivating performances.
