The North Netherlands Orchestra, also known as the Noord Nederlands Orkest (NNO), is a classical music ensemble based in the northern region of the Netherlands. The orchestra was founded in 1862 as the Groningen Orchestral Society, and has since evolved into one of the most prominent orchestras in the country. The NNO is comprised of approximately 80 musicians, including a full complement of strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. The orchestra is led by chief conductor Antony Hermus, who has been with the ensemble since 2011. Other notable members of the orchestra include concertmaster Ilona Sie Dhian Ho, principal cellist Jan-Ype Nota, and principal clarinetist Arno Piters. Over the years, the NNO has performed a wide range of repertoire, from classical works by Mozart and Beethoven to contemporary pieces by living composers.
