Bob Sharples was a British conductor, composer, and arranger who made significant contributions to the world of classical music. He was born on August 27, 1913, in London, England, and grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a violinist, and his mother was a pianist, which inspired him to pursue a career in music. Sharples began his musical education at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he studied composition, conducting, and orchestration. He showed great talent and dedication to his craft, and soon after graduation, he began working as a freelance composer and arranger. In the 1940s, Sharples joined the BBC as a staff arranger and conductor, where he worked on a variety of programs, including radio dramas, variety shows, and classical music concerts. One of Sharples' most significant achievements was his work on the BBC's "Friday Night is Music Night" program, which he conducted for over 20 years. He worked on several popular British television shows, including "The Benny Hill Show" and "The Morecambe and Wise Show," and he composed the music for several films, including "The Battle of the River Plate" and "The Day the Earth Caught Fire." In 1969, he was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his services to music, and in 1983, he was awarded the Gold Badge of Merit by the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers, and Authors.
