Sunny Knable is a contemporary classical music composer known for his unique and eclectic style. Born in 1973 in the United States, Knable grew up in a musical family and began playing the piano at a young age. His parents were both music teachers, and his father was also a composer. Knable was exposed to a wide variety of music from an early age, including classical, jazz, and rock. Knable attended the University of Michigan, where he studied composition with William Bolcom and Michael Daugherty. He also studied piano with Logan Skelton and jazz with Ellen Rowe. After completing his undergraduate degree, Knable went on to earn a Master of Music degree from the University of Texas at Austin, where he studied with Dan Welcher. Knable's early works were heavily influenced by jazz and rock music, but he soon began to incorporate elements of classical music into his compositions. His music is characterized by its use of unconventional harmonies and rhythms, as well as its incorporation of electronic and computer-generated sounds. One of Knable's most well-known works is his Symphony No. 1, which was commissioned by the Austin Symphony Orchestra in 2003. The symphony is divided into three movements, each of which is inspired by a different aspect of Texas culture. The first movement, "Rodeo," is a lively and energetic tribute to the state's cowboy culture. The second movement, "Bluebonnets," is a more contemplative piece that evokes the beauty of the state's wildflowers. The final movement, "Oil," is a dark and brooding piece that reflects the state's history as an oil-producing region. Another notable work by Knable is his Piano Concerto, which was commissioned by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in 2007. The concerto is a virtuosic showcase for the soloist, with fast and intricate passages that require great technical skill. The piece also features a number of unusual sounds, including the use of a prepared piano and electronic effects. In addition to his orchestral works, Knable has also composed a number of chamber music pieces. One of his most popular chamber works is his String Quartet No. 1, which was commissioned by the Cassatt String Quartet in 2005. The quartet is a complex and challenging piece that showcases Knable's skill as a composer. Knable's music has been performed by a number of prominent orchestras and ensembles, including the New York Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. He has also received numerous awards and honors for his work, including the ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Award and the BMI Student Composer Award. Despite his success as a composer, Knable remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to explore new sounds and techniques in his music, and is always looking for ways to push the boundaries of classical music. With his unique voice and innovative approach, Sunny Knable is sure to remain a prominent figure in the world of contemporary classical music for years to come.
