Arman Trio is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2004 in Seoul, South Korea. The trio consists of three main members: pianist Yeol Eum Son, violinist Dong Hyun Kim, and cellist Young Hoon Song. Yeol Eum Son was born in South Korea in 1986 and began playing the piano at the age of three. She went on to study at the Yewon School and the Seoul Arts High School before attending the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. She has won numerous awards, including the silver medal at the 13th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 2009. Dong Hyun Kim was born in South Korea in 1980 and began playing the violin at the age of six. He studied at the Juilliard School in New York and has won several awards, including first prize at the 2005 Michael Hill International Violin Competition in New Zealand. Young Hoon Song was born in South Korea in 1979 and began playing the cello at the age of seven. He studied at the Juilliard School and has won several awards, including first prize at the 2002 Gaspar Cassado International Cello Competition in Japan. The Arman Trio has performed at major venues around the world, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Seoul Arts Center. They have also performed with major orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Seoul Philharmonic. One of the highlights of the Arman Trio's career was their performance at the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize Concert in Oslo, Norway. They performed alongside artists such as Herbie Hancock, Florence and the Machine, and Robyn. The Arman Trio has also won several awards, including first prize at the 2008 International Chamber Music Competition in Hamburg, Germany. They have also been awarded the Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award, which is given to outstanding young musicians. In addition to their performances, the Arman Trio is also committed to music education. They have conducted masterclasses and workshops around the world, including at the Juilliard School and the Seoul National University.
