The Boston Children's Chorus (BCC) is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2003 by Hubie Jones, a professor at Boston University. The ensemble is made up of children and young adults from diverse backgrounds, ranging in age from 7 to 18 years old. The BCC is dedicated to promoting social justice and cultural understanding through the power of music. The BCC's founding was inspired by Jones' belief that music has the power to bring people together and break down barriers. He envisioned a chorus that would bring together children from different racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds to create a community of young musicians who could learn from each other and grow together. With the help of a group of dedicated volunteers, Jones launched the BCC in 2003. The BCC's early years were marked by rapid growth and success. The ensemble quickly gained a reputation for its high-quality performances and commitment to social justice. In 2005, the BCC was invited to perform at the inauguration of Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, an event that helped to raise the ensemble's profile and attract new members. Over the years, the BCC has performed at a wide range of venues and events, including the White House, the Kennedy Center, and the United Nations. The ensemble has also collaborated with a number of renowned musicians and composers, including Yo-Yo Ma, John Williams, and Tania León. One of the BCC's most notable performances took place in 2013, when the ensemble performed at the inauguration of President Barack Obama. The BCC was one of only two choirs invited to perform at the event, and their performance of "My Country 'Tis of Thee" was widely praised for its beauty and emotional power. In addition to its performances, the BCC has also received numerous awards and honors over the years. In 2013, the ensemble was awarded the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award, the highest honor given to youth arts programs in the United States. The BCC was also named a finalist for the 2018 Grammy Award for Best Choral Performance. The BCC's success can be attributed in large part to the dedication and talent of its members and staff. The ensemble is led by Artistic Director Anthony Trecek-King, who has been with the BCC since 2008. Trecek-King is a highly respected conductor and educator who has worked with a number of prestigious ensembles, including the Tanglewood Festival Chorus and the Boston Pops. The BCC's members come from a wide range of backgrounds and communities, but they share a common passion for music and a commitment to social justice. Many of the BCC's members have gone on to pursue careers in music or other creative fields, and the ensemble has helped to inspire a new generation of young musicians and artists. In recent years, the BCC has continued to expand its reach and impact. The ensemble has launched a number of new programs and initiatives, including a partnership with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and a program that provides music education to incarcerated youth. The BCC has also continued to use its platform to advocate for social justice and promote cultural understanding, with a particular focus on issues related to race and equity. Overall, the Boston Children's Chorus is a remarkable ensemble that has achieved great success and made a significant impact in its relatively short history.More....
