Paulo Mestre was born on May 15, 1985, in Lisbon, Portugal. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a renowned pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, Paulo showed a natural talent for music and began playing the piano at the age of four. As a child, Paulo was enrolled in the National Conservatory of Lisbon, where he received formal training in classical piano. He quickly excelled in his studies and began performing in local concerts and competitions. By the age of 12, Paulo had won several national and international piano competitions, including the prestigious Maria João Pires Competition. In 2001, Paulo was accepted into the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist Emanuel Ax. During his time at Juilliard, Paulo continued to win numerous awards and competitions, including the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and the International Tchaikovsky Competition. After graduating from Juilliard in 2005, Paulo began a successful career as a concert pianist, performing in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Royal Albert Hall. He has also collaborated with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. In addition to his solo performances, Paulo is also an accomplished chamber musician, having performed with some of the world's leading string quartets and other ensembles. He has recorded several albums, including a critically acclaimed recording of Beethoven's complete piano sonatas. Throughout his career, Paulo has received numerous awards and accolades for his performances and recordings. In 2010, he was awarded the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, which recognizes outstanding young musicians who show great potential for a major career in music. He has also been awarded the Gilmore Artist Award, the Arthur Rubinstein Prize, and the International Classical Music Award. Despite his success, Paulo remains dedicated to his craft and continues to push himself to new heights.
