Giovanni Antonio Piani was a prominent Italian composer of the Baroque era. He was born in Bologna, Italy, on September 16, 1678, to a family of musicians. His father, Giovanni Battista Piani, was a violinist and composer, and his mother, Caterina Gualandi, was a singer. Piani showed an early interest in music and began his musical education at a young age. Piani's early musical training was under the tutelage of his father, who taught him the violin and the basics of music theory. He also received instruction from other prominent musicians in Bologna, including Giuseppe Torelli and Giovanni Paolo Colonna.
