His father was a composer and conductor, while his mother was a singer and pianist. Wang Fuling grew up in a musical environment and began studying music at a young age. Wang Fuling's musical education began with his father, who taught him the basics of music theory and composition. He then went on to study at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, where he was trained in Western classical music. He studied composition with the renowned composer Xian Xinghai, who was also a student at the conservatory at the time. After graduating from the conservatory, Wang Fuling began his career as a composer. He worked as a composer for the Shanghai Film Studio, where he wrote music for films and television shows. He also composed music for the Shanghai Opera House and the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra. Wang Fuling's music was heavily influenced by Chinese folk music and traditional Chinese instruments. He often incorporated these elements into his compositions, creating a unique blend of Western classical music and Chinese folk music. His music was also known for its emotional depth and expressive melodies. One of Wang Fuling's most famous works is his Symphony No. 1, which was composed in 1956. The symphony was well-received by audiences and critics alike and is still performed today. Another notable work by Wang Fuling is his opera, The White-Haired Girl, which was composed in 1945. The opera was a huge success and is still considered one of the most important works in Chinese opera. Wang Fuling's other works include numerous orchestral pieces, chamber music, and vocal music. In addition to his work as a composer, Wang Fuling was also a teacher and mentor to many young musicians.
