Everett McCorvey is a renowned classical music artist who has made a significant impact in the world of opera and vocal performance. Born on October 15, 1951, in Montgomery, Alabama, McCorvey grew up in a family that valued education and music. His mother was a music teacher, and his father was a principal, which instilled in him a love for learning and a passion for music. McCorvey began his musical journey at an early age, singing in his church choir and participating in school musicals. He attended the University of Alabama, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance. He then went on to earn a Master of Music degree from the University of Kentucky and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Alabama. Throughout his career, McCorvey has performed in some of the most prestigious opera houses and concert halls around the world. He has sung with the Metropolitan Opera, the New York City Opera, the Paris Opera, and the Vienna State Opera, among others. He has also performed with major orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra. One of McCorvey's most notable performances was his portrayal of Porgy in the Houston Grand Opera's production of "Porgy and Bess." The production was a critical and commercial success, and McCorvey's performance was praised for its emotional depth and vocal prowess. He also received critical acclaim for his performance in the title role of Verdi's "Otello" at the New York City Opera. In addition to his work as a performer, McCorvey is also a respected educator and arts administrator. He has served as the Director of Opera at the University of Kentucky and the Director of the American Spiritual Ensemble, a group dedicated to preserving and performing spirituals and other African American music. He is currently the Executive Producer and Artistic Director of the National Chorale, a New York-based choral group that performs a wide range of classical and contemporary music. McCorvey has received numerous awards and honors throughout his career, including the Kentucky Governor's Award in the Arts, the University of Alabama's Distinguished Alumni Award, and the National Opera Association's Lifetime Achievement Award.
