Sayat Nova, born Haroutian Sayakian, was a prominent Armenian composer and poet who lived during the 18th century. He was born in Tiflis, Georgia, in 1712, and was raised in a family of musicians. His father, Karapet, was a renowned musician and singer, and his mother, Mariam, was a skilled player of the kanun, a traditional Armenian instrument.
