From a young age, Richard showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. His parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue his passion for music. Richard's musical journey began when he joined the Royal Academy of Music in London at the age of 18. He studied under the guidance of renowned pianist and teacher, Maria João Pires. Richard's dedication and hard work paid off when he graduated with honors from the academy. After completing his studies, Richard began performing in various concerts and recitals across Europe. He quickly gained recognition for his exceptional talent and became a sought-after pianist. In 1975, Richard made his debut performance at the Royal Albert Hall in London, which was a significant milestone in his career.
