Sinfonietta Cracovia is a classical music ensemble based in Krakow, Poland. The ensemble was founded in 1990 by Jurek Dybał, a Polish conductor and composer. The group started as a small chamber orchestra, but over the years it has grown into a full symphony orchestra with over 50 members. The ensemble's main members include the conductor and artistic director, Jurek Dybał, as well as the concertmaster, Bartosz Bryła. Other notable members include the principal cellist, Tomasz Strahl, and the principal clarinetist, Wojciech Mrozek. Sinfonietta Cracovia has performed in many prestigious venues around the world, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Berlin Philharmonic. The ensemble has also collaborated with many renowned soloists, such as pianist Martha Argerich and violinist Maxim Vengerov. One of the highlights of Sinfonietta Cracovia's career was their performance at the 2005 Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in Oslo, Norway. The ensemble played a piece composed by Jurek Dybał specifically for the occasion, which was attended by the laureate, Mohamed ElBaradei. Sinfonietta Cracovia has also received numerous awards and accolades for their performances and recordings. In 2001, the ensemble won the prestigious Diapason d'Or award for their recording of Mozart's Piano Concertos with pianist Maria João Pires. They have also been nominated for several Grammy Awards, including Best Classical Album and Best Orchestral Performance.
