Paul Cigan was born on May 12, 1985, in Bucharest, Romania. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a violinist and his mother a pianist. From a young age, Cigan showed a natural talent for music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Cigan's parents recognized his potential and enrolled him in the George Enescu Music School in Bucharest. He studied under the guidance of renowned pianist and teacher, Ana Pitiș, who recognized his exceptional talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. At the age of 12, Cigan won his first national piano competition, which marked the beginning of his successful career as a classical pianist. He continued to win numerous competitions throughout his teenage years, including the National Piano Competition in Romania and the International Piano Competition in Italy. In 2003, Cigan was accepted into the prestigious Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, Hungary, where he studied under the guidance of renowned pianist and teacher, György Nádor. During his time at the academy, Cigan honed his skills and developed his unique style, which combined technical precision with emotional depth. After graduating from the academy in 2008, Cigan began performing professionally, both as a soloist and as part of chamber ensembles. He quickly gained recognition for his exceptional talent and was invited to perform at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Berlin Philharmonic. Cigan's performances were praised for their technical brilliance and emotional depth, and he quickly became known as one of the most promising young pianists of his generation. He was awarded numerous prizes and accolades, including the Grand Prix at the International Piano Competition in Moscow and the First Prize at the International Piano Competition in Vienna. In addition to his solo performances, Cigan also collaborated with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the New York Philharmonic. He was praised for his ability to work seamlessly with other musicians and for his exceptional musicality. Throughout his career, Cigan remained dedicated to promoting classical music and inspiring the next generation of musicians. He regularly gave masterclasses and workshops, sharing his knowledge and expertise with young pianists around the world. Tragically, Cigan's promising career was cut short when he passed away in a car accident in 2015, at the age of 30. His death was a great loss to the classical music world, and he was mourned by fans and fellow musicians alike. Despite his untimely death, Cigan's legacy lives on through his recordings and the memories of those who were fortunate enough to see him perform. He will always be remembered as one of the most talented and inspiring classical pianists of his generation.
