The founding members of the group were Javier Valerio, Armando Luna, Miguel Angel Villanueva, and Arturo Hernandez. They all studied at the National Conservatory of Music in Mexico City and were inspired to form the group after attending a concert by the Rascher Saxophone Quartet. They have performed extensively throughout Mexico and have also toured internationally, including performances in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia. One of the highlights of the group's career was their performance at the World Saxophone Congress in Valencia, Spain in 1997. The Cuarteto de saxofones de México has also been recognized with numerous awards and honors. In 1990, they won first prize at the National Chamber Music Competition in Mexico City.
