Kairos Quartett is a renowned classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their exceptional performances for over two decades. The quartet was founded in 1997 in Berlin, Germany, by four young musicians who shared a passion for chamber music and a desire to create something unique and special. The founding members of Kairos Quartett were violinists Conrad Muck and Timothy Kamps, violist Jana Kuss, and cellist Claudius Herrmann. All four musicians had already established themselves as talented soloists and chamber musicians before coming together to form the quartet. Their shared vision was to explore the rich repertoire of string quartet music and to bring their own interpretation and style to the genre. From the very beginning, Kairos Quartett was recognized for their exceptional musicianship and their ability to connect with audiences. They quickly gained a reputation for their dynamic and expressive performances, which were characterized by their technical precision, emotional depth, and musical sensitivity. Over the years, Kairos Quartett has performed at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls and festivals, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Salzburg Festival, and the Edinburgh International Festival. They have collaborated with many of the world's leading musicians, including pianist Mitsuko Uchida, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, and violinist Gidon Kremer. One of the highlights of Kairos Quartett's career was their performance of the complete Beethoven string quartets at the Berlin Philharmonic in 2008. This was a monumental undertaking, as the Beethoven quartets are considered some of the most challenging and complex works in the chamber music repertoire. The quartet's performance was widely praised for its technical brilliance and emotional depth, and it cemented their reputation as one of the world's leading string quartets. Kairos Quartett has also been recognized with numerous awards and accolades throughout their career. In 2002, they won the prestigious ARD International Music Competition in Munich, which is one of the most highly regarded music competitions in the world. They have also been awarded the Echo Klassik Award, the Diapason d'Or, and the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik, among others. Despite their many achievements, Kairos Quartett remains committed to exploring new musical horizons and pushing the boundaries of the string quartet genre. They continue to perform and record extensively, and their recordings have been praised for their technical excellence and musical insight. Today, Kairos Quartett is comprised of violinists Conrad Muck and Erik Schumann, violist Jana Kuss, and cellist Claudio Bohórquez.
