Artist Info
Barry Ryan was a British singer and songwriter who rose to fame in the 1960s and 1970s with his unique blend of pop and classical music. Born on October 24, 1948, in Leeds, England, Ryan was the son of pop singer Marion Ryan and songwriter Fred Sapherson. He grew up in a musical family and was exposed to a wide range of musical genres from an early age. Ryan began his music career in the mid-1960s, performing with his twin brother Paul as the duo Paul & Barry Ryan. The brothers quickly gained popularity with their catchy pop songs, such as "Don't Bring Me Your Heartaches" and "Have Pity on the Boy." However, Ryan soon began to experiment with incorporating classical music elements into his music, which set him apart from other pop artists of the time. In 1968, Ryan released his first solo album, "The Colour of My Love," which featured a mix of pop and classical music. The album was a critical and commercial success, and Ryan's unique style of music earned him a devoted following. He continued to release albums throughout the 1970s, including "Barry Ryan Sings Paul Ryan," which was a tribute to his late brother who had passed away in 1968. One of Ryan's most notable performances was at the Royal Albert Hall in London in 1972. He performed a concert with the London Symphony Orchestra, which was a groundbreaking event at the time. The concert featured Ryan's original compositions as well as classical pieces, and it was a huge success. Ryan continued to perform with orchestras throughout his career, and he was known for his powerful and emotive performances. Ryan's music was also recognized with several awards and honors throughout his career. In 1970, he won the Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically for his song "Eloise." The song was a massive hit and remains one of Ryan's most popular songs to this day. He also received the Silver Clef Award in 1971 for his contributions to music. Despite his success, Ryan's career began to decline in the late 1970s. He struggled with personal issues and took a break from music for several years. However, he continued to perform sporadically throughout the 1980s and 1990s, and his music remained popular with fans of all ages. Ryan passed away on September 29, 2021, at the age of 72. His legacy as a pioneer of pop-classical music lives on, and his music continues to inspire and captivate audiences around the world.More....
