Born in 1979 in New York City, Kono grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to classical music from a young age. After graduating from Curtis in 2001, Kono began his professional career as a violinist. He quickly established himself as a rising star in the classical music world, performing with some of the most prestigious orchestras in the country, including the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the Philadelphia Orchestra. In addition to his work as a violinist, Kono also began to explore his passion for conducting. He studied conducting with renowned conductor David Zinman and made his conducting debut in 2006 with the New York Youth Symphony. Kono's talent as a conductor was quickly recognized, and he was appointed as the assistant conductor of the Memphis Symphony Orchestra in 2008. Kono's career continued to flourish, and he was soon in demand as both a violinist and a conductor. He has performed with some of the most prestigious orchestras in the world, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Vienna Philharmonic.
