Nikolaus Lahusen was born on May 12, 1985, in Berlin, Germany. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a renowned pianist and his mother a violinist. Lahusen showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. He quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument and began taking lessons from his father. As a child, Lahusen participated in numerous piano competitions and won several awards. He also performed in various concerts and recitals, showcasing his exceptional skills and musicality. Lahusen's parents recognized his potential and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. After completing his high school education, Lahusen enrolled at the Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin, where he studied under the guidance of renowned pianist and pedagogue, Prof. Klaus Hellwig. During his time at the school, Lahusen honed his skills and developed a deep understanding of classical music. In 2007, Lahusen won the prestigious International Piano Competition in Warsaw, Poland, which marked a turning point in his career. The competition brought him international recognition and opened doors for him to perform in major concert halls around the world. Over the years, Lahusen has performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. He has also collaborated with renowned conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle, Daniel Barenboim, and Zubin Mehta. One of Lahusen's most memorable performances was his rendition of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5, "Emperor," with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra at the Salzburg Festival in 2012. His interpretation of the piece was praised for its technical brilliance and emotional depth. Lahusen has also made several recordings, including a critically acclaimed album of Chopin's piano works, which was released in 2015. The album showcased Lahusen's virtuosity and sensitivity as a pianist and cemented his reputation as one of the leading interpreters of Chopin's music. In addition to his performing career, Lahusen is also a dedicated teacher and mentor. He has taught masterclasses at various music schools and festivals around the world, sharing his knowledge and experience with young musicians. Lahusen's talent and dedication to his craft have earned him numerous awards and accolades throughout his career. In 2010, he was awarded the prestigious Echo Klassik Award for his recording of Brahms' Piano Concerto No. 2. He has also been awarded the Order of Merit of Berlin, one of the highest honors bestowed by the city of Berlin. Despite his success, Lahusen remains humble and committed to his art. He continues to push himself to new heights and explore new avenues of expression through his music.
