Arianne Abela is a classical music artist who has made a name for herself as a pianist and composer. Born in Malta in 1993, Abela showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. She quickly demonstrated a natural talent for the instrument and began taking lessons with renowned pianists in Malta. As a young musician, Abela participated in numerous competitions and festivals, winning several awards and accolades for her performances. In 2007, she won first prize in the Malta International Piano Competition, and in 2009, she was awarded the prestigious Young Musician of the Year award by the Malta Society of Arts. Abela continued to hone her skills as a pianist and composer, studying at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England, and later at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln in Germany. During her time in Germany, Abela had the opportunity to work with some of the world's leading pianists and composers, including Pierre-Laurent Aimard and Helmut Lachenmann. Abela's performances have taken her to some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Konzerthaus Berlin, and the Carnegie Hall in New York. She has also performed at numerous festivals, including the Malta International Arts Festival, the Cheltenham Music Festival, and the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival. In addition to her work as a pianist, Abela is also an accomplished composer. Her compositions have been performed by some of the world's leading ensembles, including the London Sinfonietta, the Arditti Quartet, and the Ensemble Modern. Her music has been described as "bold and imaginative," with a unique blend of classical and contemporary influences. Abela's achievements as a musician have been recognized with numerous awards and honors. In 2015, she was awarded the prestigious Royal Philharmonic Society Composition Prize, and in 2017, she was named a BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist. She has also been awarded the Malta Arts Fund Scholarship and the Leverhulme Trust Scholarship. Despite her many accomplishments, Abela remains humble and dedicated to her craft.
