John Baker was a British composer and musician who was born on December 28, 1937, in Bristol, England. He was the son of a music teacher and grew up in a musical family. Baker showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at a young age. He later studied music at the University of Manchester, where he earned a degree in musicology. After completing his studies, Baker began working as a composer and musician. He was particularly interested in electronic music and was one of the pioneers of the genre in the UK. In the early 1960s, he joined the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, where he worked alongside other notable composers such as Delia Derbyshire and Brian Hodgson. During his time at the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, Baker composed music for a wide range of programs, including documentaries, dramas, and science fiction series. He was known for his innovative use of electronic sounds and his ability to create unique and memorable themes. Some of his most famous works include the theme music for the science fiction series Doctor Who and the drama series The Go-Between.
