He quickly gained a reputation as a talented composer and performer, and was soon appointed as a musician in the court of Louis XIV. De Beaulieu's early works were heavily influenced by the French Baroque style, with its emphasis on dance rhythms and ornate melodies. His first major work, a set of six sonatas for violin and basso continuo, was published in 1683 and was well-received by critics and audiences alike.
