The Cologne Bach Vocal Ensemble is a renowned classical music ensemble that specializes in performing the works of Johann Sebastian Bach and other Baroque composers. The ensemble was founded in 1997 by its current artistic director, Markus Teutschbein, and has since become one of the most respected vocal ensembles in Germany and beyond. Markus Teutschbein, a trained conductor and singer, had a vision of creating a vocal ensemble that would focus on the music of Bach and other Baroque composers. He gathered a group of talented singers from the Cologne area and began rehearsing and performing together. The Cologne Bach Vocal Ensemble is made up of around 20 singers, all of whom are highly trained and experienced in performing Baroque music. Over the years, the Cologne Bach Vocal Ensemble has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in Germany and beyond. The ensemble has been invited to perform at the Bachfest Leipzig, the Rheingau Musik Festival, and the Festival de Musique Baroque de Pontoise, among others. The ensemble has also collaborated with some of the world's leading Baroque orchestras, including the Freiburger Barockorchester and the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin. One of the highlights of the Cologne Bach Vocal Ensemble's career was its performance of Bach's St. Matthew Passion at the Bachfest Leipzig in 2012. The performance was widely praised for its emotional intensity and its faithful interpretation of Bach's masterpiece. The ensemble has also received critical acclaim for its recordings of Bach's cantatas and other works, which have been released on the Carus label. In addition to its performances and recordings, the Cologne Bach Vocal Ensemble is also committed to education and outreach.
