Role:Composer PerformerBirth:December 26, 1987 in Berlin, GermanyCarolina Eyck is a renowned classical music artist who has made a name for herself as a virtuoso theremin player. Born on December 17, 1987, in Leipzig, Germany, Eyck grew up in a family of musicians. Her father, Matthias Eyck, is a composer and conductor, while her mother, Doris Eyck, is a pianist and music teacher. From a young age, Eyck showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. However, it was not until she was eight years old that Eyck discovered the theremin, an electronic musical instrument that is played without physical contact. She was immediately fascinated by the instrument's unique sound and began taking lessons from Lydia Kavina, a renowned theremin player and the granddaughter of the instrument's inventor, Lev Termen. Under Kavina's tutelage, Eyck quickly developed her skills as a theremin player and began performing in public at the age of ten. She made her debut performance at the Leipzig Gewandhaus, one of the world's most prestigious concert halls, and received critical acclaim for her performance. Eyck continued to hone her skills as a theremin player and went on to study music at the University of Music and Theatre Leipzig. She also studied with other renowned theremin players, including Barbara Buchholz and Thierry Frenkel. In 2003, Eyck released her debut album, "Theremin Vox," which featured her own compositions as well as works by other composers. The album received widespread critical acclaim and established Eyck as one of the leading theremin players of her generation. Over the years, Eyck has performed at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Carnegie Hall in New York. She has also collaborated with a wide range of musicians, including the German electronic music duo Mouse on Mars and the American composer Philip Glass. In 2012, Eyck was awarded the ECHO Klassik award, one of the most prestigious awards in classical music, for her album "Fantasias for Theremin and String Quartet." The album, which was recorded with the American string quartet Ether-Or, features Eyck's own compositions as well as works by other composers. In addition to her work as a performer, Eyck is also a dedicated teacher and has taught theremin workshops around the world. She has also written a book on theremin playing, "The Art of Playing the Theremin," which has been translated into several languages. Eyck's unique talent and dedication to her craft have made her one of the most respected and admired classical music artists of her generation. Her innovative approach to the theremin has helped to bring the instrument to a wider audience and has inspired a new generation of musicians to explore its possibilities.More....
