Melesio Morales was a Mexican composer and conductor who was born on August 4, 1838, in the city of Guadalajara, Jalisco. He was the son of a musician, and his father was his first music teacher. Morales showed an early interest in music and began studying the piano and violin at a young age. He later studied at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música in Mexico City, where he was a student of the renowned composer and conductor, Julio Ituarte. Morales began his career as a conductor in 1861, when he was appointed the director of the orchestra at the Teatro Principal in Guadalajara. He later became the director of the orchestra at the Teatro Nacional in Mexico City, where he conducted many operas and other musical works. In addition to his work as a conductor, Morales was also a prolific composer, and he wrote many works for the stage, including operas, zarzuelas, and ballets. One of Morales' most famous works is his opera "Ildegonda," which premiered in 1867. The opera tells the story of a young woman who is forced to marry a man she does not love, and it features many beautiful arias and duets. Morales also wrote many other operas, including "Guzmán el Bueno," "La Partida," and "La Virgen de la Soledad." His zarzuela "La Picarona" was also very popular, and it is still performed today. Morales' music was known for its beautiful melodies and its use of traditional Mexican folk music. In addition to his work as a composer and conductor, Morales was also a teacher.
