Artist Info
Birth:1914Death:November 17, 2004Period:RomanticModernGenre:ChamberConcertoRicardo Odnoposoff was a renowned classical music artist who was born on August 14, 1914, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was born into a family of musicians, and his father was a violinist who played in the Buenos Aires Philharmonic Orchestra. Odnoposoff began playing the violin at the age of four, and by the time he was six, he was already performing in public. In 1924, Odnoposoff's family moved to Europe, where he continued his musical education. He studied with some of the most prominent violinists of the time, including Carl Flesch and Jacques Thibaud. Odnoposoff's talent was quickly recognized, and he began performing in major concert halls across Europe. In 1936, Odnoposoff made his debut in the United States, performing with the New York Philharmonic under the direction of Arturo Toscanini. The performance was a huge success, and Odnoposoff quickly became one of the most sought-after violinists in the country. Throughout his career, Odnoposoff performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Vienna Philharmonic. He also collaborated with some of the most famous conductors of the time, including Leonard Bernstein, Herbert von Karajan, and Sir Georg Solti. In addition to his performances with orchestras, Odnoposoff was also a prolific chamber musician. He was a founding member of the Odnoposoff Quartet, which was one of the most highly regarded string quartets of the time. The quartet performed extensively throughout Europe and the United States, and they recorded many of the major works in the string quartet repertoire. Odnoposoff was also a dedicated teacher, and he taught at several prestigious music schools throughout his career. He was a professor at the Juilliard School in New York City, the Hochschule fĂĽr Musik in Berlin, and the Conservatoire de Paris. Throughout his career, Odnoposoff received many awards and honors for his contributions to classical music. In 1952, he was awarded the Grand Prix du Disque for his recording of the Brahms Violin Concerto. He was also awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in recognition of his contributions to German culture. Despite his many accomplishments, Odnoposoff was known for his modesty and humility. He was always focused on the music, and he believed that the music was more important than the performer. He once said, "The music is the most important thing. The performer is just a messenger." Odnoposoff continued to perform and teach until his death in 2004 at the age of 89. He left behind a legacy of excellence in classical music, and his contributions to the art form will be remembered for generations to come.More....
