Role:PerformerRobert Thomas was born on May 3, 1960, in New York City. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a jazz pianist and his mother a classical pianist. From a young age, Thomas showed a natural talent for music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Thomas received his formal music education at the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied under renowned pianist and teacher, Vladimir Horowitz. During his time at Juilliard, Thomas won numerous awards and competitions, including the prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 1981. After graduating from Juilliard, Thomas began his career as a concert pianist, performing with some of the world's most renowned orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra. He quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented and dynamic pianists of his generation. Throughout his career, Thomas has performed a wide range of classical music, from the works of Bach and Beethoven to contemporary composers like Philip Glass and John Adams. He is known for his virtuosic technique and his ability to bring out the emotional depth and complexity of the music he plays. One of Thomas's most memorable performances was his 1992 recital at Carnegie Hall, where he played a program of works by Chopin, Liszt, and Rachmaninoff. The performance was hailed by critics as a tour de force, with The New York Times calling it "a stunning display of virtuosity and musicality." In addition to his solo performances, Thomas has also collaborated with some of the world's most renowned conductors and musicians.
