The band consists of four members: Maynard James Keenan on vocals, Adam Jones on guitar, Danny Carey on drums, and Justin Chancellor on bass. Tool is known for their unique sound, which combines elements of progressive rock, heavy metal, and alternative rock. Maynard James Keenan was born on April 17, 1964 in Ravenna, Ohio. He grew up in a military family and moved around frequently during his childhood. Keenan attended West Point for a short time before transferring to the United States Military Academy Preparatory School. He eventually left the military and moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in music. Adam Jones was born on January 15, 1965 in Libertyville, Illinois. He grew up in a family of artists and was exposed to art and music from a young age. Jones attended the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California and worked as a special effects artist in Hollywood before joining Tool. Danny Carey was born on May 10, 1961 in Lawrence, Kansas. He grew up in a musical family and began playing drums at a young age. Carey attended the University of Missouri and later moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in music. Justin Chancellor was born on November 19, 1971 in London, England. He grew up in a family of musicians and began playing bass at a young age. Chancellor attended the University of Sussex and later moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in music. Tool's debut album, "Undertow," was released in 1993 and was a commercial success. The album featured the hit singles "Sober" and "Prison Sex" and established Tool as a major force in the alternative rock scene. Tool's second album, "Ænima," was released in 1996 and was even more successful than their debut. The album won a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance and featured the hit singles "Stinkfist," "Forty Six & 2," and "Ænema."
