Mirjam Berli is a Swiss classical pianist who has gained international recognition for her virtuosic performances and musical interpretations. Born on May 12, 1987, in Zurich, Switzerland, Berli showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of five. Her parents, both music lovers, recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. Berli's musical education began at the Zurich Conservatory, where she studied under the guidance of renowned pianist and pedagogue Homero Francesch. She later continued her studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich, Germany, where she received a Bachelor of Music degree with honors. Berli then went on to earn a Master of Music degree from the Juilliard School in New York City, where she studied with Yoheved Kaplinsky. Throughout her education, Berli received numerous awards and accolades for her musical talent. In 2005, she won first prize at the Swiss Youth Music Competition, and in 2007, she was awarded the Kiefer Hablitzel Music Prize, one of the most prestigious awards for young musicians in Switzerland. In 2010, Berli was a finalist in the International Beethoven Piano Competition in Vienna, Austria, and in 2011, she won the Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe Scholarship. Berli's career as a professional pianist began to take off after she won the 2012 International Piano Competition in San Marino, Italy. This victory led to numerous concert engagements throughout Europe and the United States, including performances at the Berlin Philharmonic, the Tonhalle Zurich, and the Lincoln Center in New York City. One of Berli's most notable performances was her debut with the Zurich Chamber Orchestra in 2014, where she performed Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 23 in A major. The concert received rave reviews, with critics praising Berli's technical skill and musical sensitivity. The following year, Berli made her debut at the Lucerne Festival, one of the most prestigious classical music festivals in the world. She performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 with the Lucerne Festival Orchestra, conducted by Riccardo Chailly. Berli's repertoire is diverse, ranging from the Baroque era to contemporary music. She has a particular affinity for the music of Beethoven, and has performed all of his piano sonatas in concert. In addition to her solo performances, Berli is also an avid chamber musician, and has collaborated with numerous musicians and ensembles, including the Belcea Quartet and the Zurich Chamber Orchestra. In addition to her performing career, Berli is also a dedicated teacher. She has taught masterclasses at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich, the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano, and the Juilliard School in New York City. Berli is also a faculty member at the Zurich University of the Arts, where she teaches piano. Berli's musical talent and dedication to her craft have earned her numerous awards and honors throughout her career. In 2016, she was awarded the Swiss Ambassador's Award for Cultural Achievement, and in 2018, she was named a Steinway Artist, joining a select group of pianists who are recognized for their excellence in performance and dedication to the art of piano playing. Today, Berli continues to perform regularly throughout Europe and the United States, and is recognized as one of the most talented and exciting young pianists of her generation.
