He was born in 1662 in Paris, France, and was the son of a musician. His father, Jean-Baptiste Bousset, was a member of the royal chapel and a composer of sacred music. Bousset began his musical education at a young age, studying with his father and other prominent musicians of the time. He quickly showed a talent for music and was soon recognized as a gifted composer and performer. In 1683, Bousset was appointed as a musician in the royal chapel, where he worked alongside some of the most famous composers of the time, including Jean-Baptiste Lully and Marc-Antoine Charpentier. During his time in the royal chapel, Bousset composed a number of works, including motets, cantatas, and operas. One of Bousset's most famous works is his opera "Achille et Polyxène," which was first performed in 1703. The opera tells the story of the Greek hero Achilles and his love for the Trojan princess Polyxena. The work was well-received by audiences and critics alike and helped to establish Bousset as one of the leading composers of his time. In addition to his work in the royal chapel and his operas, Bousset also composed a number of sacred works, including masses and hymns. His sacred music was highly regarded and was often performed in churches throughout France. Bousset was also known for his skill as a performer. He was an accomplished singer and played a number of instruments, including the harpsichord and the viola da gamba. He often performed his own works and was highly regarded for his ability to bring out the emotional depth of his compositions. Despite his success as a composer and performer, Bousset's life was not without its challenges. He suffered from poor health throughout his life and was often forced to take extended breaks from his work. He also faced financial difficulties, which were exacerbated by the high cost of producing operas. Despite these challenges, Bousset continued to compose and perform throughout his life. He died in 1725 at the age of 63, leaving behind a legacy of beautiful music that continues to be celebrated and performed to this day.More....
