Mei-Ting Sun is a renowned classical pianist who has captivated audiences around the world with his virtuosic performances and unique interpretations of classical repertoire. Born in Shanghai, China in 1974, Sun began playing the piano at the age of four and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. His parents recognized his potential and enrolled him in the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, where he studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist and teacher Professor Zhao Ping-Guo. Sun's early years of training were rigorous and demanding, but he persevered and quickly rose through the ranks of young pianists in China. He won his first major competition at the age of ten, and by the time he was a teenager, he had already performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls in China, including the Shanghai Grand Theatre and the Beijing Concert Hall. In 1993, Sun was awarded a full scholarship to study at the Juilliard School in New York City, one of the most prestigious music schools in the world. He moved to the United States and began studying under the guidance of renowned pianist and teacher Yoheved Kaplinsky. Sun's time at Juilliard was transformative, and he quickly established himself as one of the most promising young pianists of his generation. Sun's breakthrough performance came in 1995, when he won the prestigious Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition in Salt Lake City, Utah. The competition, which is held every four years, attracts some of the most talented young pianists from around the world, and winning it is considered a major achievement in the classical music world. Sun's performance of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3 in D minor was hailed as a triumph, and he was awarded the first prize, which included a cash award and a recording contract with the Delos label. Following his victory at the Bachauer competition, Sun's career took off. He began performing regularly with major orchestras around the world, including the New York Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. He also began recording extensively, releasing a series of critically acclaimed albums that showcased his virtuosic technique and unique musical sensibility. One of Sun's most memorable performances came in 2008, when he was invited to perform at the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony.
