Cazes received his formal music education at the Conservatoire de Paris, where he studied under the tutelage of renowned pianists such as Yvonne Lefébure and Pierre Sancan. He graduated with top honors and went on to pursue a career in music. Cazes made his debut as a solo pianist in 1975, performing at the Salle Gaveau in Paris. His performance was well-received, and he quickly gained recognition as a talented pianist. He went on to perform at various prestigious venues across Europe, including the Royal Albert Hall in London and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. In addition to his solo performances, Cazes also collaborated with other musicians and performed as part of chamber ensembles. He was a member of the Trio Pasquier, which was formed in 1978 and consisted of Cazes on piano, Jean Pasquier on violin, and Etienne Pasquier on cello. The trio performed together for over a decade and gained a reputation for their exceptional performances. Cazes also worked as a conductor and led various orchestras, including the Orchestre National de France and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France. He was known for his ability to bring out the best in his musicians and for his attention to detail. In 1982, he was awarded the Grand Prix du Disque for his recording of the complete works of Gabriel Fauré.
