Beryl Korman was born on May 15, 1985, in New York City. She grew up in a family of musicians, with both her parents being professional classical musicians. Her mother was a pianist, and her father was a cellist. From a young age, Beryl showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Beryl's parents recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. She began taking piano lessons with her mother and quickly progressed. By the age of ten, Beryl had already won several local piano competitions and had performed in numerous recitals. At the age of twelve, Beryl was accepted into the Juilliard School's Pre-College Division, where she studied with renowned pianist Yoheved Kaplinsky. During her time at Juilliard, Beryl continued to excel, winning several competitions and performing in numerous concerts. After completing her studies at Juilliard, Beryl went on to attend the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where she studied with pianist Gary Graffman. While at Curtis, Beryl continued to win competitions and perform in concerts, including a performance with the Philadelphia Orchestra. In 2007, Beryl graduated from Curtis with a Bachelor of Music degree. She then went on to pursue a Master of Music degree at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, where she studied with pianist Wha Kyung Byun. During her time at the New England Conservatory, Beryl continued to win competitions and perform in concerts. In 2009, she won the NEC Concerto Competition and performed with the NEC Symphony Orchestra. After completing her studies at the New England Conservatory, Beryl began to establish herself as a professional pianist. She performed in numerous concerts and recitals throughout the United States and Europe, including performances at Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center. In 2012, Beryl won the prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, one of the most prestigious piano competitions in the world. Her performance of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3 in the final round of the competition was widely praised by critics and audiences alike. Following her win at the Van Cliburn Competition, Beryl's career took off. She was invited to perform with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the London Symphony Orchestra. In addition to her performances with orchestras, Beryl also continued to perform in solo recitals and chamber music concerts. She collaborated with some of the world's leading musicians, including violinist Joshua Bell and cellist Yo-Yo Ma. Throughout her career, Beryl has received numerous awards and accolades. In addition to her win at the Van Cliburn Competition, she has also won the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Competition, the Leeds International Piano Competition, and the International Tchaikovsky Competition. Beryl is also a dedicated teacher and has taught masterclasses at some of the world's leading music schools, including the Juilliard School and the Curtis Institute of Music. She is currently a faculty member at the New England Conservatory of Music. In addition to her performing and teaching career, Beryl is also a philanthropist and is actively involved in several charitable organizations. She has donated her time and resources to organizations that support music education and provide access to music for underserved communities.
