Chris Pitsillides is a renowned classical music artist who has made a significant impact in the world of music. Born on May 15, 1985, in Nicosia, Cyprus, Chris showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. His parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue his passion for music. Chris's musical journey began when he enrolled at the Cyprus State Conservatory, where he studied piano under the guidance of renowned pianist and teacher, Dr. Tatiana Stupak. He quickly excelled in his studies and won several awards and competitions, including the first prize in the National Piano Competition in Cyprus in 2001. In 2003, Chris moved to the United Kingdom to further his studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London. There, he studied under the tutelage of renowned pianists, including Christopher Elton, Joanna MacGregor, and Pascal Devoyon. He also received masterclasses from distinguished pianists such as Murray Perahia, AndrĂ¡s Schiff, and Lang Lang. During his time at the Royal Academy of Music, Chris won several awards and accolades, including the prestigious Harold Craxton Prize for his outstanding performance in the final recital. He also won the Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe Scholarship, which enabled him to continue his studies in Japan. Chris's talent and dedication to music have led him to perform in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including the Royal Albert Hall, Wigmore Hall, and the Barbican Centre in London, the Konzerthaus in Berlin, and the Suntory Hall in Tokyo. He has also performed in various festivals, including the Cyprus International Festival, the Cheltenham Music Festival, and the Bath International Music Festival. One of Chris's most notable performances was his debut recital at the Wigmore Hall in London in 2008. The performance received critical acclaim, with The Guardian describing his playing as "exquisite" and "sensitive." The following year, he made his debut with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, performing Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 under the baton of conductor Grzegorz Nowak. Chris has also collaborated with several renowned musicians, including violinist Maxim Vengerov, cellist Steven Isserlis, and clarinetist Michael Collins. He has also worked with various orchestras, including the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, and the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra. In addition to his performances, Chris is also a dedicated teacher and has taught at various institutions, including the Royal Academy of Music and the Junior Department of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. The album was followed by his second album, "Chopin: Piano Works," which was released in 2015.
