I Gemelli
Artist Info

I Gemelli is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2009 by twin brothers, violinist Roberto and cellist Paolo. The duo was born in Italy and began their musical training at a young age. They both attended the Conservatory of Music in Milan and later continued their studies in the United States. The brothers' passion for music and their desire to share it with others led them to form I Gemelli. The ensemble's name, which means "the twins" in Italian, reflects the brothers' close bond and their shared love of music. I Gemelli's main members are Roberto and Paolo, who serve as the ensemble's artistic directors. They are joined by a rotating cast of musicians, including pianists, violists, and other string players. The ensemble's size and composition vary depending on the repertoire being performed. I Gemelli has performed at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York City and the Royal Albert Hall in London. The ensemble has also been featured on numerous radio and television programs, including NPR's "Performance Today" and BBC Radio 3's "In Tune." One of I Gemelli's most notable performances was at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. The ensemble was selected to perform at the Olympic Village, where they played a program of classical favorites for athletes and spectators from around the world. In addition to their live performances, I Gemelli has released several critically acclaimed recordings. Their debut album, "Twin Virtuosos," features works by Bach, Vivaldi, and Paganini, among others. The album received rave reviews from music critics and helped establish I Gemelli as one of the most exciting new ensembles in classical music. I Gemelli has also been recognized with several awards and honors. In 2011, the ensemble was awarded the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, which recognizes outstanding young musicians who show exceptional talent and promise. The grant provided I Gemelli with financial support and helped raise their profile in the classical music world. In 2014, I Gemelli was invited to perform at the White House for President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. The ensemble played a program of classical and contemporary works, including a piece by composer and pianist Billy Childs, who joined the ensemble for the performance. I Gemelli's repertoire spans a wide range of styles and periods, from Baroque and Classical to contemporary and experimental. The ensemble is known for their virtuosic playing and their ability to bring new life to familiar works. Despite their success, Roberto and Paolo remain humble and dedicated to their craft. They continue to perform and record with I Gemelli, and they also teach and mentor young musicians. Their passion for music and their commitment to excellence have made I Gemelli one of the most exciting and innovative ensembles in classical music today.
