Hans Martin Nau was a renowned classical music artist who made significant contributions to the world of music. He was born on January 15, 1945, in Frankfurt, Germany. From a young age, Nau showed a keen interest in music, and his parents encouraged him to pursue his passion. Nau began his musical training at the age of six, studying the piano with his mother, who was a pianist. He later went on to study at the Hoch Conservatory in Frankfurt, where he received his diploma in piano performance. Nau continued his studies at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria, where he studied with the renowned pianist and pedagogue, Carl Seemann. After completing his studies, Nau embarked on a successful career as a concert pianist, performing extensively throughout Europe and the United States. He was known for his virtuosic technique and his ability to bring out the emotional depth of the music he played. One of the highlights of Nau's career was his performance of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Herbert von Karajan. The performance was widely acclaimed, and Nau was praised for his sensitive interpretation of the piece. Nau also had a successful recording career, releasing numerous albums of solo piano music and chamber music. His recordings of the works of Schubert, Schumann, and Brahms were particularly well-received, and he was awarded several prestigious awards for his recordings, including the Grand Prix du Disque. In addition to his performing and recording career, Nau was also a respected teacher and mentor. He taught at the Hoch Conservatory in Frankfurt and the Mozarteum in Salzburg, where he had studied as a young man. Many of his students went on to have successful careers as musicians, and Nau was known for his dedication to his students and his ability to inspire them to reach their full potential. Throughout his career, Nau received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to the world of music. In 1985, he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his services to music. He was also awarded the Mozart Medal by the International Mozarteum Foundation in Salzburg in recognition of his contributions to the music of Mozart. Sadly, Nau's career was cut short when he passed away on December 22, 1991, at the age of 46. However, his legacy lives on through his recordings and the many musicians he inspired and mentored throughout his career. Hans Martin Nau will always be remembered as a gifted pianist, a dedicated teacher, and a true ambassador for the world of classical music.
