Born in Brazil in 1976, Lemos grew up in a musical family and began singing at a young age. He was drawn to the countertenor voice, which is a rare and distinctive vocal range that is often associated with early music and baroque opera. Lemos began his formal music education at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, where he studied voice and music theory. He later moved to the United States to continue his studies at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. During his time in Boston, Lemos began to gain recognition as a rising star in the classical music world. Over the next several years, Lemos performed in a variety of operas and concerts around the world, including appearances at the Royal Opera House in London, the Teatro Real in Madrid, and the Lincoln Center in New York City. One of Lemos' most notable performances was his portrayal of the title role in Handel's opera "Giulio Cesare" at the Glyndebourne Festival in 2005. This performance was widely acclaimed for Lemos' virtuosic singing and his ability to convey the complex emotions of the character. Lemos' performance was praised by critics as "spellbinding" and "mesmerizing," and it cemented his reputation as one of the leading countertenors of his generation. In addition to his work as an opera performer, Lemos is also a sought-after concert artist and recitalist. He has performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, and the Berlin Philharmonic. He has also collaborated with many of the world's leading conductors, including Sir Simon Rattle, Daniel Barenboim, and Riccardo Muti.
