Rachele Schmiege is a classical music artist who has made a name for herself in the world of opera. Born in 1987 in Chicago, Illinois, Schmiege grew up in a musical family and began singing at a young age. She attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance. After completing her undergraduate studies, Schmiege went on to pursue a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance at the University of Michigan. During her time at Michigan, she had the opportunity to perform in several productions, including Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro" and Puccini's "La Bohème." She also won the school's prestigious Concerto Competition, which allowed her to perform as a soloist with the University Symphony Orchestra. Following her graduation from Michigan, Schmiege moved to New York City to pursue a career in opera. She quickly made a name for herself in the city's vibrant opera scene, performing with several companies, including the New York City Opera and the Metropolitan Opera. In 2015, she was named a winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, one of the most prestigious competitions for young opera singers in the United States. Since then, Schmiege has continued to perform with some of the world's leading opera companies. She has appeared in productions at the Royal Opera House in London, the Paris Opera, and the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. She has also performed with several orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. One of Schmiege's most notable performances came in 2018, when she made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera in the role of Zerlina in Mozart's "Don Giovanni." The performance was widely praised by critics, who noted Schmiege's "luminous soprano" and "charming stage presence." She has since returned to the Met for several other productions, including "La Bohème" and "The Magic Flute." In addition to her work on the opera stage, Schmiege is also a dedicated recitalist and chamber musician.
