Born on August 22, 1994, in Munich, Germany, Gromes grew up in a family of musicians. Her father, a cellist, and her mother, a pianist, were both professional musicians who inspired her to pursue a career in music. Gromes began playing the cello at the age of four and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. She received her first cello lessons from her father and later studied with renowned cellists such as Wen-Sinn Yang and Gustav Rivinius. Gromes also received training in piano, which helped her develop a deep understanding of music theory and composition. At the age of 12, Gromes won first prize at the Jugend musiziert competition, a prestigious music competition for young musicians in Germany. This early success gave her the confidence to pursue a career in music and led to many more opportunities to perform and compete. In 2011, Gromes was accepted into the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München, one of the most prestigious music schools in Germany. There, she studied with Wen-Sinn Yang and graduated with honors in 2016. During her time at the school, Gromes won several awards and competitions, including the International Johannes Brahms Competition in Austria and the International Music Competition Harbin in China. After graduating from the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München, Gromes continued her studies at the Kronberg Academy, a renowned music school in Germany. There, she studied with renowned cellist Frans Helmerson and received further training in chamber music and orchestral playing. Gromes has performed as a soloist with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Munich Philharmonic, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Symphony Orchestra. She has also performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Carnegie Hall in New York, and the Royal Albert Hall in London. One of Gromes' most notable performances was her debut at the Salzburg Festival in 2018, where she performed the world premiere of a cello concerto by Austrian composer Thomas Larcher. The performance was widely praised by critics and established Gromes as one of the most promising young cellists of her generation. Gromes has also won several awards for her recordings, including the prestigious ECHO Klassik award in 2019 for her album "Tango Dreams," which she recorded with her pianist sister, Nathalia. The album features arrangements of tango music by Astor Piazzolla and other composers and showcases Gromes' virtuosity and musicality. In addition to her solo career, Gromes is also an avid chamber musician and has performed with many of the world's leading chamber ensembles. She is a member of the Gromes Piano Trio, which she formed with her sister Nathalia and violinist Tobias Feldmann. The trio has performed in many of the world's leading concert halls and has received critical acclaim for their performances.
