She went on to study music at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she earned a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance in 1982. After completing her undergraduate studies, Lillios continued her education at the University of Illinois, where she earned a Master of Music degree in composition in 1984. She then went on to pursue a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in composition at the University of North Texas, which she completed in 1991. Throughout her career, Lillios has been recognized for her innovative and experimental approach to composition, particularly in the realm of electroacoustic music. Her works often incorporate a wide range of sounds and textures, including field recordings, synthesized sounds, and acoustic instruments. One of Lillios' most notable works is her 2009 composition "Veiled Resonance," which was commissioned by the International Computer Music Association. The piece is a sonic exploration of the resonant properties of various objects, including bells, bowls, and gongs. Lillios used a combination of field recordings and synthesized sounds to create a rich and immersive sonic environment that invites the listener to explore the hidden resonances of everyday objects. Another notable work by Lillios is her 2012 composition "Sleep's Undulating Tide," which was commissioned by the Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States.
