St.-Martins-Chorknaben Biberach is a classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their beautiful performances for over 60 years. The ensemble was founded in 1959 by the then-choirmaster of St. Martin's Church in Biberach, Germany, Franz Wassermann. The choir was initially made up of just 12 boys, but it has since grown to include over 100 members. The choir's main members are the boys who sing in the choir, ranging in age from 8 to 18 years old. The choir is divided into four groups: the preparatory choir, the junior choir, the concert choir, and the chamber choir. The choir is also accompanied by a professional orchestra, which includes some of the best musicians in the region. One of the highlights of the choir's history was their performance at the Vatican in 1985. The choir was invited to perform for Pope John Paul II, and they sang a selection of sacred music that left the audience in awe. The choir has also performed at many other prestigious venues, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna Konzerthaus, and the Royal Albert Hall in London. Over the years, the choir has won many awards and accolades for their performances. In 1972, they won first prize at the International Choir Competition in Arezzo, Italy. They have also won numerous awards at the German Choir Competition, including first prize in 1982 and 1990. In 2015, the choir was awarded the prestigious German Choir Prize, which is awarded every four years to the best choir in Germany. The choir's repertoire is primarily focused on sacred music, but they also perform secular music and have collaborated with many contemporary composers. They have recorded several albums, including a collection of Christmas carols and a selection of works by Johann Sebastian Bach. The choir's success can be attributed to their dedication and hard work. The boys in the choir undergo rigorous training, which includes daily rehearsals and regular performances. They are also required to maintain good grades in school and to participate in community service projects.
