She later studied at the Toho Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo, where she received a Bachelor of Music degree. She then went on to study at the Juilliard School in New York City, where she earned a Master of Music degree. Mitsui's talent and dedication to music were evident from an early age. In addition to her career as a concert pianist, Mitsui is also a respected teacher. She has taught at the Toho Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo and the Juilliard School in New York City.
