He was the son of a musician, and it is likely that he received his early musical training from his father. As a young man, he moved to Madrid, where he became a member of the court chapel and began to establish himself as a composer. Carrión's music is characterized by its rich harmonies and expressive melodies, which draw on both Spanish and Italian musical traditions. He was particularly skilled at writing vocal music, and his works for choir and solo voice are among his most celebrated compositions. One of Carrión's most famous works is his Missa de la Batalla Escoutez, which was composed in 1582. This mass is notable for its use of battle sounds, including the sound of trumpets and drums, which are incorporated into the music to create a dramatic and powerful effect. The mass was performed at the coronation of King Philip II of Spain, and it quickly became one of Carrión's most popular works. In addition to his sacred music, Carrión also wrote a number of secular works, including villancicos and madrigals. These pieces often featured lively rhythms and playful melodies, and they were popular with both courtly and popular audiences. Carrión's career was cut short by his untimely death in 1596, at the age of just 46. However, his music continued to be performed and admired in Spain and beyond, and he is now recognized as one of the most important composers of the Spanish Renaissance.More....
