Jeffrey Zeigler is a renowned cellist who has made a significant impact on the classical music scene. Born in 1967 in Hawaii, Zeigler grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a jazz pianist, and his mother was a singer. Zeigler started playing the cello at the age of eight and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. Zeigler's musical education began at the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan, where he studied with Richard Aaron. He then went on to study at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, where he received his Bachelor of Music degree. Zeigler continued his studies at the University of Southern California, where he earned his Master of Music degree. After completing his studies, Zeigler began his professional career as a cellist. He quickly gained recognition for his exceptional talent and was invited to perform with some of the most prestigious orchestras in the world, including the New York Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the London Symphony Orchestra. In addition to his work as an orchestral musician, Zeigler has also established himself as a soloist and chamber musician. He has performed in some of the world's most renowned concert halls, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Royal Albert Hall. One of the highlights of Zeigler's career was his tenure as the cellist of the Kronos Quartet. He joined the quartet in 1999 and remained a member until 2013. During his time with the Kronos Quartet, Zeigler collaborated with some of the most innovative and groundbreaking composers of our time, including Philip Glass, Steve Reich, and Terry Riley. Zeigler's work with the Kronos Quartet earned him numerous accolades and awards. The quartet won three Grammy Awards during Zeigler's tenure, and he was also awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant in 2000. After leaving the Kronos Quartet, Zeigler continued to pursue his solo career and collaborations with other musicians. He has worked with a diverse range of artists, including Laurie Anderson, John Zorn, and Yo-Yo Ma. In addition to his work as a performer, Zeigler is also a dedicated educator. He has taught at the Mannes School of Music in New York City and the University of California, Los Angeles. He is currently on the faculty of the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance. Zeigler's commitment to contemporary music has also led him to commission and premiere numerous new works for the cello. He has worked with composers such as Paola Prestini, Glenn Kotche, and Bryce Dessner to create new pieces that push the boundaries of what is possible on the cello. Throughout his career, Zeigler has remained committed to exploring new sounds and pushing the boundaries of classical music. His dedication to innovation and experimentation has made him one of the most exciting and influential cellists of our time.
